About Rachael’s Ribbons of Hope Foundation
This year’s tournament is an example of a growing trend of increased collaboration among nonprofits – especially between smaller organizations and those that don’t share the same mission.  ”We are very happy to be partnering with the Rachael’s Ribbons of Hope Foundation for the tournament” stated Historic Manitou boardmember Michelle Anthony.  ”Each of us brings a different supporter demographic and the combined manpower of two organizations, which is important when you do everything with volunteers!”  Anthony indicated the groups have already discussed additional opportunities to support each other’s missions and partnering on future events.
Rachael’s Ribbons of Hope Foundation was started November 1, 2007, and is dedicated to raising awareness about pediatric brain tumors and funding research through the Brain Tumor Institute for treatments and ultimately a cure. The foundation is a memorial and a continuation of the dream of Rachael Newton, daughter of the foundation director. For more information, please visit the website at www.rachaelsribbonsofhope.org.

August 21st – All Aboard the History Express!
Join train enthusiasts and history buffs on the History Express.  Board the world famous Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway for the trip to the top of Pikes Peak…and back!  Passengers will be transported to 1911 when the sites along the Cog Route were very different than they are now.  Hear about Mr. and Mrs. Skinner – who froze to death on America’s mountain exactly 100 years ago to the day, and learn about the places and people they would have encountered on their ill-fated, and unsuccessful, trip to the summit as the train stops at key locations on the return trip.  Conductor of the Heritage Express will be well-known train historian Mel McFarland and guest speaker on the Skinner incident will be Tim Blevins from the Pikes Peak Library District.  Watch for more information, or contact the Heritage Center for details.

August 27th – Heritage Hall Reception
In honor of the Manitou Springs High School Alumnae Annual Reunion, a reception will be held at Heritage Hall – on the second floor of the Manitou Springs Elementary School – from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.  Join Heritage Center boardmembers and Manitou Springs alums as we enjoy continental breakfast items and refreshments as we learn the real meaning of “old school” in Manitou Springs!

October 15th – Halloween Costume Ball
Do you miss those Halloween costume parties or the Halloween Carnival you got to go to as a kid?  We are planning a costume ball that will bring back all those fun memories!  More information coming soon.

October 29th – Ghost Stories of Old Manitou
This will be the 18th year of our walking tours into the spirit world.  Tickets will go on sale the first of October and usually sell out.  Watch for information and announcements.
